Terms of service

The agreement between you and us when you use Veolan, in plain words.

1Who provides Veolan

Veolan is provided by Quantum Encoding Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16575953), with its registered office at 33 Oxford Street, Coalville, LE67 3GS, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”).

These terms apply when you create a Veolan account or use the Veolan apps. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use Veolan. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

2What Veolan is

Veolan lets you see and control your own computers from your other devices, and help someone who invites you to their computer. Your devices connect to each other, encrypted end to end, so we don’t see your screens or what you type.

3Early access

Veolan is in early access. That means:

  • features can change, be added or be removed, and there will be bugs;
  • the service may be interrupted or unavailable, and we don’t promise any level of availability (there is no service level agreement);
  • connections that can’t go direct currently use public relays run by a third party (n0, the company behind iroh), which may be slow or unavailable;
  • we may pause or end early access. If we end it, we will tell account holders by email in advance where we reasonably can.

4Price

Veolan is free during early access. We haven’t decided on paid plans yet. If we introduce them, we will announce them, with their prices, before they apply, and we will never charge you without your agreement. You can stop using Veolan at any time.

5Your account and its security

You must be at least 16 to use Veolan. When you create an account:

  • use an email address that is yours and that you can keep using;
  • keep your email account, passkeys and devices secure, and lock the devices you use Veolan on;
  • link and trust only devices that you control;
  • if you think someone else has access to your account or one of your devices, revoke the device in your account and tell us at support@veolan.com straight away.

You are responsible for what happens through your account and through the devices you link or trust, unless it happens because of something we did wrong.

6Acceptable use

Veolan gives control of a computer, so the rules matter. You agree to:

  • connect only to computers you own, or that you have permission from their owner to access;
  • set up unattended access only on computers you own or are authorised to control without someone present;
  • start a help session only when the other person has invited you and agreed to it. They can stop it at any time, and when they do, you must not try to reconnect without their agreement;
  • if you use Veolan on computers others use, such as at work, make sure you are authorised and that the people affected are told where the law requires it.

You must not use Veolan to:

  • watch or monitor anyone without their knowledge and consent, or for any other unlawful surveillance;
  • get into a computer, account or data you aren’t entitled to, or trick anyone into giving you access, for example by pretending to be technical support;
  • commit fraud, spread malware or break any law;
  • attack, overload or try to get around the security of Veolan, its relays or other people’s devices, or use the relays for anything other than Veolan connections.

7No AI

Veolan has no AI features. We don’t analyse your screens or sessions, and we don’t use anything you do in Veolan to train AI models.

8Our software

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Veolan apps and services in line with these terms. Veolan, its apps and its brand belong to us. Some parts of Veolan are open-source software, which is covered by its own licence. If you get an app from an app store, that store’s terms apply as well.

What you see and do on your own computers stays yours. We don’t receive it, and these terms give us no rights over it.

9Suspension and ending

You can stop using Veolan whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@veolan.com.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other people or the service at risk, or that the law requires us to act on. We will tell you why unless the law or a security risk prevents it. We may also stop providing Veolan; if we do, we will give account holders reasonable notice by email where we can.

The parts of these terms that by their nature should continue after an account ends (such as liability and governing law) continue.

10Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Veolan is free during early access and is provided as it is and as available. As far as the law allows, we don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that it will suit a particular purpose.

  • If you use Veolan as a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable. Veolan is for domestic and private use: if you use it for business, we are not responsible to you for loss of profit, business, business opportunity or business interruption.
  • If you use Veolan for business, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, and our total liability arising out of or in connection with Veolan in any 12-month period is limited to £100.

You are responsible for what you do on the computers you connect to, and for keeping your own backups.

11Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when Veolan changes or leaves early access. We will publish the new version on this page with its date, and tell account holders by email about significant changes before they apply. If you don’t agree with a change, you can stop using Veolan and ask us to delete your account.

12Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom or in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can also bring proceedings in the courts there.

13General

If a court decides that part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. Nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
